Ahoy there and welcome to our 40th season! Spring is at last upon us (finally). I think we can seafely say farewell to that season whose name we do not mention.

HCYC’s 2014 season kicked off with the annual New Year’s Day Commodore’s Levee

Ahoy there and I hope you all enjoyed the holidays!

As you all know we held our 39th Annual General Meeting at National Yacht Club. The agenda was quite full, discussions on various items were plentiful and a great atmosphere with libations was enjoyed by all.

It has been an apparent whirlwind of a boating season. Here we are in late August and it feels like we just launched.

We kicked off the official boating season on June 15 with the annual Sail Past and Commodore’s Reception. This was a shared effort with the Toronto Island Sailing Club (TISC) and in concert with the Toronto Island Marina (TIM) Season Opener. On Saturday, November 10, 33 members and their guests gathered in the Green Room at PAL Place for the Annual General Meeting chaired by Commodore Nigel Napier-Andrews. The high point of the year was the completion of our new deck, he said, and we have also had an unusually good intake of new and mostly younger members thanks to the efforts of Alan Laver. More cruisers were out on the water thanks to the encouragement of Matt Phillips.

After much effort from a stalwart crew of volunteers, the new deck on the shore of Long Pond across from the clubhouse is finished but for a few details. Designed by our Bosun Blaine Evans, the deck quickly grew from the ground up on the first session on Sunday, June 22. Work slowed through the summer with a few boards being added here and there by ad hoc volunteers, but picked up again with good sessions late in July and ...

Nineteen members were present for the AGM and 13 proxies were received. After a healthy debate, a number of bylaw changes were proposed and were passed unanimously. They have been posted on the website.
The principal change was the simplified categories of membership. The Voting Couple Category has been set aside. The Senior Voting Member (boat owning) category is now Senior Member and the Voting Member (non-boat owning) category is simply Member. Those boat owners who wish their spouse to ...

Three events were organized this season by Social Director Carolyn Callaghan, who steps down from the demanding role at the end of the summer and will be much missed. On Saturday, July 2, Joe Malon, Nigel and Diane Napier-Andrews, Carolyn Callaghan, Todd Fraser, John Darby, Jann Coppen and her guest Jane Wanamaker, Paul Peachey, Ric Donaldson, and Sandy Macpherson, a former marina boater and HCYC member, were among those who enjoyed a sunny afternoon at the clubhouse.
