A message from John MacLean, Commodore

Hello all,

I hope you are all enjoying the spring boating season. I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about some important goings on with HCYC. We need to have the clubhouse hauled out for an insurance survey this year. This is overdue and has been delayed in past years due to the expense, but we cannot delay any longer. Coincidentally, we’ve been offered the opportunity to have the exterior of the clubhouse used in the shooting of the HBO television series Sensitive Skin. They are shooting on the north shore near Deep Pike Cut and would haul the clubhouse there temporarily. In return the production company would paint the exterior, replace light fixtures and do repairs to make sure she looks her best. The catch is the clubhouse will be out of the water and away from her cove from June 6 to June 16. The upside is it will generate enough revenue for us to finance the haul-out and repainting of the pontoons, and will allow us to build badly needed new docks. We also get an exterior renovation without any hit to our budget. I have worked with this company before and can vouch for their professionalism. Also, HCYC will be covered under their insurance policies should there be any unforeseen issues.

Please let me know if you have any concerns about this.

***We need volunteers in the next week for the work before the survey, if you have time to contribute to your annual one day of work, to help sand and anti-foul the pontoons on the houseboat.***

A reminder that Sailpast is on the 6th of June, at 2 pm. The skippers meeting will be at 12pm on the Upperdeck with a BBQ and reception on the club deck to follow the salute. I hope to see all of you on the water in your finest!

Also, a reminder that if you haven’t paid your dues for 2015, you have until May 31 to pay without incurring a $25 penalty. They can be paid via PayPal or cheque via https://hcyc.ca/product/membership-renewal/. Please fill out the form for either method of payment.

Yours sincerely,

John
